2026 NIMBUS GALA HONOREES

Nancy and Nathan SambulNANCY AND NATHAN SAMBUL
New Jersey Philanthropists, Dedicated Supporters of Nimbus Dance
For Nathan and Nancy Sambul, decades of residence in Jersey City have equated with inextricable engagement and support for the arts, for their neighborhood, for their synagogue, Temple Beth-El, and for organizations that serve those in need. Nancy and Nathan, who proudly refer to themselves as “Nimbus Groupies”, have become dear friends to the Nimbus organization in countless ways: closely following Nimbus’ performance seasons and the unveiling of new work, befriending individual company artists, supporting student dancers, and offering sage guidance and advice to Nimbus Founder and Artistic Director, Samuel Pott.

The Sambuls are exemplary and admirable Jersey City community members. In a transient world, they are people who remain steadfast. Nimbus, many other community-serving organizations, and Jersey City generally, are ever so fortunate to have been the beneficiaries of the Sambuls’ years of conscientious and generous presence. Nancy and Nathan both set an example and also bring out the best in us: they show that there is strength and meaning in rolling up your sleeves, getting involved, and investing time, energy and resources in the community that surrounds us and that we call home.
Barbara BickartBARBARA BICKART
Senior Advisor, Arts & Culture at New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA)
Barbara M. Bickart has led one of the State of New Jersey’s largest and most in-depth singular investments in the arts in the State’s history. The A.R.T. 2 grant, which distributed $15 million to 39 organizations across the State—and of which Nimbus was a fortunate and grateful recipient—has injected transformational funding into urban areas most deeply impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The New Jersey Economic Development Authority recognizes that the state’s arts organizations represent a network and infrastructure that reaches deeply into local economies, the state’s workforce, families, and offers leverage for reinvestment in urban, transit-oriented communities. For Barbara, the relationship of the arts to community is also personal. An acclaimed interdisciplinary video artist whose work has been exhibited internationally and represents a wide range of social and community-based subject areas, and an educator who has taught and lectured in university settings nationally, Barbara’s understanding of arts practice and the realities of the arts field informs and deepens her advocacy and policy leadership. A resident of Jersey City for several decades, she collaborated with such mainstays as Segunda Quimbamba and the Jersey City Museum. We are deeply grateful for Barbara Bickart’s leadership and guidance in steering investment to New Jersey communities where both need and potential for resonant impact are most great.

NIMBUS AWARD FOR SERVICE THROUGH THE ARTS

MIKA GREENE
Nimbus Educational Programs Manager, Nimbus2 Associate Director, Teaching Artist, Dancer

SHAYLA HUTTON
Teaching Artist, Dancer

VICTORIA SANTAGUIDA
Nimbus Special Projects Manager, Teaching Artist, Dancer

At the core of what drives Nimbus, is service. Beyond what seems like the glamour of a life in the arts, the high points of recognition by audiences and esteemed venues, there is the daily dedication to the art form, to one’s colleagues and collaborators, to students, and to the goals and mission of the organization. If not for individuals who have resonated with these underlying motivations, Nimbus would not be the organization it is today.  Indeed, the history of Nimbus has been propelled forward by committed artists, many who began as dancers in the company, became teachers in our school, and grew into leadership positions in the management of our organization.

Mika Greene, Shayla Hutton, and Victoria Santaguida came to Nimbus 8 and 9 years ago respectively; their tenures overlap with nearly half of the organization’s existence and with the transformative period of growth that accompanied the opening of the Nimbus Arts Center, national touring, major collaborations with the New Jersey Symphony, and the flourishing expansion of the School of Nimbus. Mika, Shayla and Victoria have been indispensable leaders and members of the Nimbus family, deeply interwoven with Nimbus’ repertory and virtually every new work the company has created and performed over this last period. As educators, their work has touched the lives of hundreds of Nimbus students and thousands of young audience members.

There is no greater sense of gratification than to watch the growth and development of artists and leaders as they find their voices, take hold of opportunity, and become empowered to make their mark on the world. We are proud to present the 2026 Nimbus Award for Service through the Arts to Mika Greene, Shayla Hutton and Victoria Santaguida, and ever grateful for their friendship, and commitment to Nimbus.
