Nimbus Dance Expands to Summit, New Jersey;
Hires Acclaimed School Directors: Sarah Lane and Marie Zvosec
Former New Jersey Dance Theatre Ensemble Studios Transition to Nimbus Management
Nimbus, Jersey City’s acclaimed contemporary dance company, school, and arts center, will add a new 8,800 square foot location in Downtown Summit, New Jersey. The Summit studio, previously run by New Jersey Dance Theatre Ensemble, under the direction of renowned dance educator Nancy Turano, will offer youth classes in ballet, modern dance, and other genres, pre-professional training, and adult classes. Additionally, the Summit studio will become a new hub for Nimbus’ professional dance company, offering public performances, workshops, and opportunities for engagement with the company.
In tandem with the expansion to Summit, Nimbus announces the hiring of two highly accomplished School Co-Directors: Sarah Lane and Marie Zvosec. Sarah Lane, an internationally-renowned former Principal Dancer with American Ballet Theater, will lead the School of Nimbus’ ballet program and oversee the Summit location. Ms. Lane’s areas will include Pre-professional training, direction of the student ensemble company in Summit, and rehearsal and coaching of ballet repertory. Ms. Zvosec, a graduate of the Juilliard School, with a Master’s Degree in Dance Education from Sarah Lawrence College, will lead the school’s Jersey City location with a special focus on Modern and Contemporary Dance, Curriculum Design, and Teacher Development.
The expansion to Summit marks the latest significant achievement for Nimbus Dance and an extension of the organization’s statewide and regional impact. Recently, Nimbus opened the Nimbus Arts Center in Downtown Jersey City in 2020, New Jersey’s largest dance-based arts center; and pioneered multiple landmark artistic collaborations with some of the state’s most heralded artists and arts organizations: collaborations with the New Jersey Symphony, Spring (2022), set to Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring, and Firebird (2025), set to Igor Stravinsky’s famous score, both performed at NJPAC’s Prudential Hall, garnered significant attention and acclaim. A 2024 project with renowned tap dance virtuoso Jason Samuels Smith, jazz percussionist Winard Harper, and choreographer Roger C. Jeffrey, was a boundary-pushing artistic work, as has been Artistic Director Samuel Pott’s long term collaborations with Brooklyn composer Qasim Naqvi on Anima, a three-part series exploring humankind’s relation to the natural world. Nimbus’ 2024 sold-out run of Jersey Nutcracker was named by TimeOut New York as one of “New York City’s Best Christmas Performances”.
Says Nimbus Founder and Artistic Director, Samuel Pott:
“We have closely followed Nimbus’ core approach: seeking the ways that artistic creativity and innovation can meld with service and relevance to the community. After a remarkable 20th anniversary season, we are excited to invest ever more deeply in education and community in our home State of New Jersey, led by two stellar leaders of our school: Marie Zvosec and Sarah Lane. We are honored to continue the long legacy of excellent dance training offered by Nancy Turano, Alfredo Corvino, and the New Jersey Dance Theater Ensemble.”
Nimbus’ operation in Summit continues the operation of the Summit studio which has housed the New Jersey Dance Theatre Ensemble, a 56-year-old organization directed for 31 years by renowned dance educator Nancy Turano. NJDTE has an impressive history of placing dancers in ballet and contemporary dance companies worldwide, and in top university and conservatory programs.
Says Ms. Turano, Artistic Director, New Jersey Dance Theatre Ensemble:
“We are thrilled to work with Samuel Pott and Nimbus as they transition to the Summit Studios, formerly NJDTE. We are delighted to welcome the new Co-Directors of the Nimbus School, Sarah Lane and Marie Zvosec. Sarah Lane, a phenomenal artist and brilliant teacher and coach has captivated the dance world with her artistry and dedication to nurturing talent. Marie Zvosec, is a true force in the dance community who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to the art form. We look forward with great enthusiasm to seeing the incredible impact they will have on the dancers and the school.”
Nimbus will begin classes in Summit in September with open houses and public events scheduled through the summer. Summer semester in Jersey City will begin July 7th.
