November 13–15, 2026

Location: Nimbus Arts Center, 329 Warren Street, Jersey City, NJ

Nimbus Dance presents Point of Contact, three dances set to live music that make up an unforgettable evening at Jersey City’s Nimbus Arts Center.

Bringing together some of today’s most fascinating and boundary-pushing performing artists, Point of Contact features a world premiere by Princess Grace Award-winning choreographer Omar Román de Jesús, visiting Atlanta artists Lauri Stallings and glo, and the return of Samuel Pott’s acclaimed Surface Tension.

The experience extends beyond the stage with motion, a live art gallery activation by Stallings featuring Nimbus dancers, and a special movement workshop exploring glo’s choreographic practice. Scroll down for more information!

The Performances

Lamentos — World Premiere

Choreography by Omar Román de Jesús

Hailed as “one of the most exciting new voices in American dance,” Princess Grace Award-winning choreographer Omar Román de Jesús unveils Lamentos, a world premiere created for Nimbus Dance in collaboration with Jersey City’s own Segunda Quimbamba, a celebrated Puerto Rican percussion ensemble.

Bringing contemporary concert dance together with the Puerto Rican traditions of Bomba and Plena, the work fuses the ensemble’s rhythms with an electronic score by composer Jesse Scheinin and costumes by Karen Young.

Artistic Collaborators

Lamentos is commissioned in part by New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC).

Adventure 1 (in Preview)

Choreography by lauri stallings | glo

Visiting Atlanta artists lauri stallings and glo present Adventure 1, the first part of a new choreographed work performed to Philip Glass’s Mad Rush.

Featuring Jersey City pianist Yukiko Tanaka and four glo moving artists—Noëlle Dave’, Ashley Ianna, Alyssa Lucas, and Mary Jane Pennington—the work meditates on the ancient practice of “letting,” allowing flow and exchange between fragile ecosystems.

Recently returned from a residency in the Dordogne region of France, stallings’ work is celebrated internationally, in Atlanta, and throughout communities across the American South for its meticulous attention to detail and willingness to reconfigure how we think about performance and artmaking.

Adventure 1 is made possible with support from Dunvagen Music Publishers for Philip Glass and ongoing artist residency support from The Goat Farm, Atlanta.

Surface Tension

Choreography by Samuel Pott

Samuel Pott’s “exquisite” Surface Tension returns to the stage, with pianist Yukiko Tanaka performing works by Johannes Brahms and Franz Liszt live, accompanied by the sounds of rocks and seaweed.

As music and dance rise and recede like the ocean itself, this seminal 2014 work explores and blurs the meeting point where one body ends and another begins.

Through fluid movement and shifting relationships between dancers, Surface Tension examines connection, separation, and the boundaries of the human form.

Before the Show: motion

A Live Art Gallery Activation by lauri stallings

Firmament Gallery at Nimbus Arts Center

For Nimbus Dance, lauri stallings presents motion, a new live art gallery activation featuring Nimbus dancers throughout Firmament Gallery, created specifically for Nimbus Arts Center at The Lively.

Stallings’ choreographic practice examines how people come together, exploring how physical proximity, collective movement, and shared social rituals can transform everyday spaces into emotional arenas.

Drawing on the industrial history of Jersey City’s Powerhouse Arts District and the legacy of the former Hudson and Manhattan Railroad Powerhouse, motion fuses dance, sculpture, and relational systems into ongoing actions and living environments that explore how bodies feel and transmit.

Working with disused sites, rail stations, and dance spaces as “powerhouses” of creative practice and community gathering, stallings approaches motion as a fluid, orchestrated environment where bodies must slow down, synchronize, and navigate the physical presence of others.

Rather than separating the audience from the performance, the work invites a different relationship with space and movement, creating opportunities to observe how individuals move together and respond to one another.

motion offers a preview of ideas and creative processes taking shape in Jersey City and Atlanta for a new project commissioned for Nimbus Dance in 2027.

Activation Schedule: You can catch this immersive activation 30 minutes before each Point of Contact performance.

Entrance is included with your purchase of a Point of Contact ticket.
