Jersey City, NJ — Nimbus Dance unveils its highly anticipated Fall Season, celebrating the organization’s 20th Anniversary with a dynamic lineup of performances, premieres, and community events. The Fall season draws together trademark components of Nimbus’ artistic identity, which have fueled the organization’s growth as New Jersey’s largest contemporary dance organization: collaboration with diverse choreographers and musical artists, engagement with national figures in the arts as well as Jersey City-based artists, and work that engages and entertains while also pushing artistic boundaries.
Highlighting Nimbus Dance’s Fall season on November 8-9 is Songs of Us, which features Nimbus’ collaboration with The Terpsichore Ensemble, a choral group led by Dr. Colin Britt. The company presents a world premiere by renowned Cuban-American choreographer Pedro Ruiz, and the company reprise of Artistic Director Samuel Pott’s Six Chansons, both set to live choral accompaniment. Nimbus also brings back The After Party, Dawn Marie Bazemore’s beloved and electric work set to the music of Nina Simone and Nancy Wilson.
Capping the Fall season, Nimbus presents Jersey City Nutcracker, the wildly popular rendition of Tchaikovsky’s holiday ballet, re-imagined as a touching story of two Jersey City kids and featuring the lustrous projected scenography of Laia Cabrera and Isabelle Duverger. Jersey City Nutcracker will be presented over 22 performances for public and school audiences by a cast of Nimbus’ 15 professional dancers and over 80 youth performers. (Youth performance opportunities still available, contact the School of Nimbus).
Additional Fall performances include Nimbus’ September 20th Season Launch Party, featuring a company performance, food, drinks, and dance party with DJ Chauncey. On September 28th in Lincoln Park, the Jersey City Parks Coalition and Concerts at the Fountain present Nimbus, with special guest musicians from the New Jersey Symphony, in a free-to-the-public performance. In late October, Nimbus tours to venues in Vermont and Massachusetts.
Throughout the Fall, the Nimbus Arts Center will be alive with theater, music, art exhibitions, and dance instruction. Bridge Art Gallery opens Verses from the Abstract on September 13, featuring the work of Anthony Boone, Bryant Small, among other notable local artists. On September 28th at the Nimbus Arts Center, the Hudson West Folk Festival brings a full day of music performances by some of the top acoustic, songwriting, and folk musicians on the national circuit. The Curtain, Jersey City’s premier classical theater, returns to the Nimbus Arts Center with Shakespeare’s Macbeth from October 10 – November 3.
Spring 2025 will bring unprecedented new creative work for the dance company, including the world premiere of Samuel Pott’s Firebird, commissioned by and presented alongside the New Jersey Symphony at NJPAC and Count Basie Theater; and Dark Water, the third in a series of collaborations with Brooklyn composer Qasim Naqvi and featuring an interactive visual component by Guggenheim fellow Nicola López.
The State of New Jersey’s largest contemporary dance organization, Nimbus, is comprised of its renowned professional touring dance company, the Nimbus Arts Center, providing a home base for multiple arts organizations, including Segunda Quimbamba and Bridge Art Gallery, the School of Nimbus, serving over 500 youth annually with professional instruction in dance, theater, and singing, and offsite arts programming that serves thousands of Jersey City youth in the school system. Under the visionary leadership of Founding Artistic Director Samuel Pott, Nimbus has been awarded grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, Arts & Culture Renewal Fund, New Music USA, O’Donnell-Green Foundation, and many others.

About Nimbus Dance:
Nimbus Dance bridges the gap between world-class performances and community engagement by presenting work that challenges, speaks to, and elevates the core beliefs of its diverse audience. Founded in 2005 by visionary Artistic Director Samuel Pott (former soloist with Martha Graham Dance Company) and based in Jersey City, Nimbus stands at the forefront of excellence in the arts, civic engagement, and equitable impact. With a highly physical and visually engaging aesthetic, Nimbus’ international company of dancers “split the difference between traditionalism and modernism… A Nimbus piece can pivot from ballet to Broadway to Beyoncé in a few beats.” (Tris McCall, Jersey City Times). The company performs on tour nationally and throughout the greater New Jersey/New York region, impacting more than 16,000 people annually. Recently, Nimbus performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood and is humbled by support from the National Endowment for the Arts and O’Donnell Green Music and Dance Foundation.
