Performance Cancellation: Jersey City Nutcracker

Date: Wednesday, December 22, 2021

Time: E.D.T.

Dear Nimbus Friends and Family,

With great sadness, Nimbus has canceled remaining performances of Jersey City Nutcracker 2021 out of caution for the health and safety of performers, audiences, and staff. Unfortunately, the current surge in Covid cases has not spared Nimbus’ community of staff and students. We had hoped that these performances marked an important step forward in our collective effort to return to live performance, holiday gatherings, and opportunities for our community to come together around dance and the arts. Jersey City Nutcracker represents a singular moment of togetherness in our community: professional company dancers, youth performers from all over Jersey City, family members, and audiences. So many people have worked hard for months to prepare for these performances: it is a great disappointment to cancel and a dismaying reminder that the difficult times we have endured over the last 2 years are not over yet.

To our Nimbus student performers: Each student performer should take strength and pride in our group accomplishment: preparing an exceptional production of Jersey City Nutcracker. I, and the entire Nimbus staff, are extraordinarily proud of each of the members of this production. Let us remember that our hard work together has not been in vain: we have grown together, learned new skills, made new friendships, developed new strength as dancers and as a community. In Act 1 of Jersey City Nutcracker, the lead characters Maria and Christina bring magic and light to their dark and dreary city, and emerge to a vision of what their city could become: filled with dance and community. Though it is disappointing that many of the performances were canceled, it is just this sense of inner strength and resilience that we have built together through our work on Jersey City Nutcracker.

To our audiences: Your support means the world to us. We apologize for canceling performances of Jersey City Nutcracker which may have been part of holiday plans with your family and loved ones.  We look forward to welcoming you back to the Nimbus Arts Center soon enough, when we can all safely gather.

Nimbus staff, company dancers, and Board of Directors send our best wishes for health and wellness to the entire Nimbus family: audience members, students, families and partners during this holiday season. Classes will resume in January and we will be here, providing a safe environment for continued growth in dance for our community.

Sincerely,    – Samuel Pott, Artistic Director
